Our Center
offers many types of Wellness therapies, including those
of Essential Oils. Many people do not know what
essential oils are, much less how to use them. As the
Manager of the Center, I felt this month would be a good
opportunity to cover this topic, and I will begin with
the definition of them.
Essential Oils - Experts agree that the essential oil of
a botanical is the purest form of the plant's energy and
character. Essential oils are defined as a group of
volatile aromatic liquids or semi-solid liquids
containing true plant essences. All of our essential
oils are "uncut," and 100% pure. They contain
no alcohol, extenders or harmful chemicals. They are
absolutely pure and of the highest quality. Because
these oils are concentrated, a little bit goes a long
way.
How to Use Essential Oils Inhale * use an
essential oil diffuser and diffuse for fifteen minutes
at a time, one to two times daily. Or, put a few drops
in a spray mist bottle with water, and mist the air with
the spray.
Or, add a drop or two to a tissue,
bring tissue up to nose and inhale deeply for a few
minutes. Apply to affected area. Essential oils are
HIGHLY concentrated. Most of the time, only one drop at
a time is needed. Use one drop twice a day to start and
increase only if needed. With children, ALWAYS dilute
essential oils before applying them to the skin. A
child's skin is very sensitive - much more so than an
adult's. Some oils are very "hot" such as
lemongrass, cinnamon, black, pepper, cardamom, ginger,
clove, oregano and thyme. They should always be diluted
before applying. Even eucalyptus can be uncomfortable
for a child unless diluted. When in doubt, dilute.
Dilute with a carrier oil (olive oil, jojoba oil, almond
oil, etc.)
- Apply to bottoms of feet, using
reflexology techniques
- Apply to specified energetic
meridians.
- Add to bath water (add a few
drops to bath salts or Bath Gel Base).
- Use as a compress (rub one to
three drops on location, cover with a hot, damp towel.
Cover the moist towel with a dry towel for ten to
sixty minutes.) This intensifies the effect.
- Dilute to use as full body
massage
- Storage of essential oils:
Always store essential oils in an amber or dark-
colored glass bottle in a dark, cool place. Keep them
away from heat

Aromatherapy
BY SHAUNA MONTOYA
WHAT IS
AROMATHERAPY?
A LITTLE BIT OF INFO
ON IT THIS MONTHS SCENT IS "SANDALWOOD"
Scent is the most enduring of our
senses. It has the power to transform our emotions, and
heal our bodies. It can take us to another place and
time.
Aromatherapy is a term coined by French chemist Ren*
Maurice Gattefoss* in the 1920's to describe the
practice of using essential oils taken from plants,
flowers, roots, seeds, etc., in healing. The term is a
bit misleading, since the aromas of oils, whether
natural or synthetic, are generally not themselves
therapeutic. Aromas are used to identify the oils, to
determine adulteration, and to stir the memory, but not
to directly bring about a cure or healing. It is the
"essence" of the oil--its chemical
properties--that gives it whatever therapeutic value the
oil might have. Furthermore, vapors are used in some but
not all cases of aromatherapy. In most cases, the oil is
rubbed onto the skin or ingested in a tea or other
liquid. Some aroma therapists even consider cooking with
herbs a type of aromatherapy.
When aroma therapists get into professional debates
about empirical matters it is generally over such
matters as whether natural oils are superior to
synthetic ones, though even here references to
scientific studies of the issue are sought in vain. The
way aroma therapist Daniele Ryman, a defender of natural
oils, treats the subject of "lavender" is
typical. In her book, Aromatherapy, she gives some
botanical and historical information about the plant,
including a claim by Matthiole, a 16th century botanist,
that lavender is a panacea which can cure epilepsy,
apoplexy and mental problems. She tells us that the
principal constituents of lavender are alcohols such as
borneol, geraniol and linalool; esters such as geranyle
and linalyl; and terpents such as pinene and limonene.
Lavender also contains a
high percentage of phenol, a strong antiseptic and
antibiotic. She also notes that while many essential
oils are very toxic, lavender is one of the least toxic
of all oils. Then she tells us that lavender is
"the oil most associated with burns and healing of
the skin."
She says lavender is "very effective in treating
cystitis, vaginitis, and leucorrhea." Furthermore,
as an herbal tea, lavender "is also good as a
morning tonic for convalescents, as a digestive after
meals, for rheumatic conditions, and at the first
appearance of a cold or flu." To prevent varicose
veins, Ryman advises that you "massage the legs
with an oil consisting of 3 drops cypress oil, 2 drops
each of lavender and lemon oil, and 1 ounce of soy
oil" Nowhere does she give any indication that
anyone anywhere has done any control studies with
lavender to test any of these claims. Now, it's true
that expressions such as 'very effective' and 'is good'
are not very precise, but they are not complete weaslers
like 'helps' (which is what she says lavender in your
bath will do for cellulite). And 'most associated' with
burns doesn't actually say that it will do any good for
burns. Still, I think these claims can be made precise
enough to test, though I doubt if Ryman or most other
aroma therapists have any interest in doing such tests.
For some reason, Ryman doesn't say much about lavender's
use to reduce stress in her chapter on lavender.
However, in a section on "Insomnia" she says
that "lavender is a gentle narcotic, recommended
for mental and physical strain." There has been a
study done, not mentioned by Ryman, which compared the
effects on intensive care patients of aromatherapy using
lavender, massage therapy and rest. The study concluded
that rest was best.
I would not reject aromatherapy out of hand, however.
When I have a cold and a stuffy nose, I'll use Vicks
VaporRub, a mixture of camphor, menthol and eucalyptus
oil. Strictly speaking, I suppose I am a practicing
aroma therapist.
However, when I look at what people who call themselves
aroma therapists claim, I have to conclude that
aromatherapy is a mostly a pseudoscientific alternative
medical therapy. It is a mixture of folklore,
trial and error, anecdote, testimonial, New Age
spiritualism and fantasy. What aromatherapy lacks is a
knack for sniffing out nonsense.*

UNCONDITIONAL LOVE
By Rev. Nahwinga
Er-EL
The dictionary defines Love as
"a strong or passionate affection for another
person. A feeling of warm personal attachment, or
deep affection. "Before they discover their
Spiritual Path, most people will experience Love in
this way, and they will invariably expect
"something" in return. In other words, it
is conditional. The mind loves to make associations,
which then be- come conditions. That's just what it
does! Mind de- lights in raking over the past and
finding old connect- ions and 'reasons why', then
turning these into conditions, with which to monitor
and inhibit present time activities, especially
'dangerous' ones, like extending real love. Mind
says, "I'll love you, if ..." This type of
Love doesn't even come close to the joy, peace and
utter contentment that the giving and receiving of
unconditional Love can bring.
One often hears complaints that uncond itional love
is hard to give and to keep giving; yet it is the
most powerful and natural, God-given ability of a
human. "How can I love my kids when they are so
naughty?" "How can I love my spouse, when
we have constant arguments?" Ideas like these
are from the conditioned mind. "I could love
them if they'd only behave!" That's an excuse
for not giving real love. Children who experience
real love have few behavioral problems and spouses
who are warmed by real love soon forget all those
conditions that have caused disruptions.
Before you can experience the wonder of
unconditional Love, you first have to learn to love
yourself. You cannot possibly love others
unconditionally before you first learn to love
yourself. This is the very first step to
experiencing unconditional Love- to love you, accept
yourself just as you are and then give Love to all
with- out any expectation of it being returned- the
joy being in the giving. Many people have difficulty
loving them- selves. Louise Hay suggested a helpful
exercise. Stand before a mirror, everyday and say,
"I really love you, (say your name.)" Keep
doing this until it gets very easy and you feel
happy to do it. We can now expand on this. Contact
the heart energy of unconditional love and direct it
to your reflection. Then flood your whole body with
it. Then visualise sending it out over the earth to
as many beings as you can.
Hand in hand with this goes the need to become
totally non-judgmental, the need to give up duality
and the need to give up all addictions to outcomes.
Have preferences, by all means, but be prepared for
the eventuality that those expectations may not be
met.
We also need to understand that everyone, and I mean
everyone, is a Soul on its journey towards
remembrance. When we look at those around us, we
must understand that we have all been there in
previous lives, so there is no difference between
us. We are all part of the one great Soul. Some of
us happen to be remembering it and others are not
yet. Everyone is exactly where he/she is supposed to
be- the place that is in line with his or her life
plan. As that wonderful ascended master, Sai Baba,
says: "Love all- Serve all." There is
within each one of us a potential for goodness
beyond our imagining. For giving which seeks no
reward. For listening without judgment. For loving
unconditionally.
The appearance of the bodily host can, and does,
differ greatly, as does the philosophy or religion
of the different races and cultures. But underneath
it all is the immortal Soul, a part, a very
important part, of the One.
The name itself goes a fair way to describe just
what unconditional Love is, but it has to be
experienced before it can really be appreciated.
Here is a very beautiful definition of Unconditional
Love for you to think about:
"I love you as you are, as you seek to find
your own special way to relate to the world, or the
way you feel that is right for you. It is important
that you are the person you want to be and not
someone that others or I think you should be.
I realise that I cannot know what is best for you
although perhaps sometimes I think I do. I've not
been where you have been, viewing life from the
angle that you have. I do not know what you have
chosen to learn, how you have chosen to learn it
with or in what time period. I have not walked life
looking through your eyes, so how can I know what
you need?
I allow you to be in the world without a thought or
word of judgment from me about the deeds you
undertake. I see no error in the things you say and
do, in this place where I am. I see that there are
many ways to perceive and experience the different
facets of our world. I allow, without
reservation, the choices you make in each moment.
I make no judgment of this, for if I were to deny
your right to evolution then I would deny that right
to all others and myself. To those who would choose
a way I cannot walk, whilst I may not choose to add
my power and my energy to this way, I will never
deny you the gift of Love that God/Goddess/Spirit
has bestowed within me for all creation, as I love
you so I shall be loved, as I sow, so shall I reap.
I allow you the universal right of free will to
walk your own path, creating steps or to sit a while
if that is what is right for you. I will make no
judgment of these steps, whether they are large or
small, nor light or heavy or that they lead up or
down, for this is just my viewpoint. I see you do
nothing and judge it to be unworthy and yet it may
be that you bring great healing as you stand blessed
by the light of God/ Goddess/Spirit.
I cannot always see the higher picture of divine
order. For it is the inalienable right of all life
to choose their own evolution and with great love I
acknowledge your right to determine your future. In
humility, I bow to the realisation that the way I
see is best for me but does not *have to mean that
it is also right for you. I know that you are led as
I am, following the inner excitement to know your
own path.
I know that many races, religions, customs,
nationalities and beliefs within our world bring us
great richness and allow us the benefit of teachings
of such diversity. I know we each learn in our own
unique way in order to bring that love and wisdom
back to the whole. I know that if there were only
one way to do something, there would need to be only
one person. I will not only love you if you behave
in a way I think you should, or believe in those
things I believe in. I understand you are truly my
brother and sister though you may have been born in
a different place and believe in the existence of
other paths to the one than I.
The love I feel is for God's entire world. I know
that every living thing is part of God and I feel a
love deep with every person, and all trees, and
flowers, every bird, river, ocean and for all the
creatures in the world. I live my life in loving
service, being the best me I can, becoming wiser in
the perfection of divine truth, becoming happier in
the joy of unconditional love."
The outpouring of unlimited Love of the purest
possible kind towards oneself plus all creatures,
plants and everything else that is found on this
planet, and beyond, without any thought or
expectation of reward."
And the beauty of
this spiritual Love is that it can be directed at
both males and females because it is pure- it is
above the physical, sexual attraction. In the Bible,
we find this very worthy quote about love. It comes
from the first Gospel of St. John Chapter 4, verse
7: "Beloved, let us love one another, because
love takes its origins in God, and everyone who
loves is a child of God. He who has no love does not
know God because God is love."
Unconditional Love is not hard to find- it is one of
the gifts that comes to you, free, when you awaken
to your spirituality and discover your Spiritual
Path. But it does need lots of practice, because the
selfish expectations of something in return, which
are such a big part of ordinary physical love, are
very hard to break. You will find it hard, at first,
to get rid of them and give your love, freely, with
the joy just being in the giving.
The discovery of that divine Love that lies dormant
within each and every one of us will change your
life forever. You will lose the negative emotions of
anger, jealousy, envy and greed to be replaced by a
feeling of such peace that makes them all of no
consequence. And the most wondrous thing of all is
that as you radiate unconditional Love, it returns
to you much stronger, richer and fuller than any
conditional love ever can. Negative emotions just
cannot survive in the place of pure, unconditional
Love!
So when we gain the ability to both give and receive
unconditional Love, it is not a weakness in our
character- rather the identification and practice of
one of the most powerful tools to help us on our
journey.
Quoting from a most
interesting, thought provoking book written by Alice
A. Bailey: "Love is indeed a mighty power- a
principle that exists in its own right, independent
of any individual. People change, but the principle
of love does not and cannot. Love is all around you
like the air and is the very breath of you.

What's up on Planet Earth?
By Karen Bishop
Because Karen's Articles are so
profound and large, we are giving you an excerpt of
them monthly.
September 1
September, September, September. The advent of this
month will bring in much clarity for our New roles
and New desires and places. Much will now click into
place for us, and remember that the key to being in
this space is to let go of what is no longer serving
you or making you feel magnificently great. When you
hit your mark and are willing to simply surrender to
your New life with total trust, I can assure you,
you will feel great as you will be in total
alignment with your soul's intentions.
With the advent of September, the pieces will fall
into place for a whole new you and a whole new
reality. Things may not completely manifest until
January, but you will know your New path.
For first wavers, or those who have crossed *way
over* the threshold, if you are willing to believe,
you will find yourselves more in the presence of the
non-physical beings than in the presence of the Old
physical reality. In the Old World , we could call
in the non-physical beings when we chose and in this
way, spend brief periods with them. In the New World
, it will be the opposite. We will be spending more
time with these higher vibrating beings (which will
include ourselves!) and less time in the denser,
physical realities.
Through these massive changes yet to
come, know that you will be provided for. Know that
you will be safe. Know that all your needs will be
met. Know that you are being watched over at all
times. And know that you are loved.
Wishing you Heaven in your heart, starlight in your
soul, and miracles in your life in these miraculous
times. Until next time,
